Combining microneedling with DMK enzyme therapy

Combining Microneedling with DMK: Why the Pairing Works

One of the things that distinguishes serious paramedical skincare from a high street salon is the willingness to think in protocols rather than single treatments. Skin that’s struggling rarely responds best to one tool used in isolation. It responds to a properly built combination, with each element doing what it does best and the whole adding up to more than the parts.

Microneedling and DMK enzyme therapy are one of those combinations that genuinely amplify each other. Here’s why the pairing works, the order that matters, the timing between sessions, and an example of how we use them together in clinic.

Why these two layer well

Microneedling and DMK do different things to the skin, which is exactly why they pair so well. Microneedling triggers the wound healing response: new collagen, new elastin, improved cell turnover. It’s a powerful stimulus, but on its own it leaves the rest of the skin chemistry to its own devices.

DMK works on the skin’s underlying chemistry. It encourages the skin to function more efficiently, clears congestion, calms inflammation, and supports the conditions in which collagen production can actually happen. By itself, it does substantial work, but it doesn’t directly stimulate collagen the way needling does.

Combine them, and you have the stimulus of needling running alongside the supported chemistry to make the most of that stimulus. The collagen building work happens in a skin that’s better equipped to do it. The DMK enzyme work amplifies the regenerative cascade that needling has triggered. Results in our experience are noticeably better than either treatment delivers alone.

The order that matters

Sequence matters in combination protocols. We don’t combine a needling session and an enzyme masque in the same appointment, because the skin needs to be in different states for each to work properly. We sequence them across appointments.

A typical pattern is enzyme therapy first to clear, calm and prepare the skin, then needling sessions while the skin is in optimal condition, then enzyme work returning afterwards to support recovery and consolidate results. The exact sequence depends on the skin in front of us, but the principle is the same. Prepare, stimulate, support.

On the home side, prescribed DMK home care typically runs throughout the protocol, providing the daily chemistry that supports both the needling and the enzyme work in clinic.

Timing between treatments

Treatments need space between them for the skin to do its work. Microneedling sessions are typically spaced four to six weeks apart. Enzyme therapy sessions can be one to two weeks apart in active courses. In combination protocols, we’ll often slot enzyme work in between needling appointments rather than doubling up.

What that looks like in practice might be: enzyme therapy at week one, two and three to prepare and clear, microneedling at week four, enzyme therapy at week six to support recovery, microneedling at week eight, and so on. Total length of a course is typically twelve to sixteen weeks depending on what’s being treated.

Home care runs throughout. Daily prescriptives, weekly home masques where appropriate, and disciplined sun protection are non negotiable across the entire period.

Conditions where the pairing shines

We see particularly strong results from combination protocols on:

  • Acne scarring, where needling addresses the texture and DMK addresses the underlying skin function
  • Mature skin with both collagen loss and uneven skin chemistry
  • Hormonal pigmentation alongside ageing change
  • Post acne skin that needs both texture work and ongoing prevention
  • Stretch marks and body work where the combination is amplified

The common thread is that these are concerns where both the structural change of needling and the chemistry work of DMK matter. For a client who just wants product penetration before a wedding, simpler is fine. For deep work, combination is where the real change lives.

A real protocol example

To make this concrete, here’s a roughly typical protocol for a client in her early forties with acne scarring and beginning to show ageing change.

Weeks one to three: Three sessions of DMK enzyme therapy, building skin function and clearing congestion. Tailored home prescriptive starts.

Week four: First microneedling session at depths chosen for the scarring and overall skin tone work. Post treatment recovery products provided.

Week six: DMK enzyme therapy to support healing and consolidate the work of the needling session.

Week eight: Second microneedling session, often slightly deeper as skin tolerance has built.

Week ten: DMK enzyme therapy.

Week twelve: Third microneedling session.

Week fourteen: Final DMK enzyme therapy of the active course.

Week sixteen: Review, discuss maintenance plan.

Throughout: Disciplined daily home prescriptive, sun protection, occasional supportive home masques.

Results from this kind of protocol consistently outperform either treatment delivered alone. It takes more planning and more commitment, but for clients with serious concerns, it’s how genuine change happens.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have DMK and microneedling in the same week?

Generally no. Microneedling requires the skin to be in a particular state to be done safely, and enzyme therapy requires a different state to work properly. We sequence them across appointments rather than combining them in a single visit, with appropriate recovery time between each.

What order should they be done in?

Typically we start with enzyme therapy to prepare the skin, then introduce microneedling once the skin is in good condition, then continue alternating with enzyme support sessions throughout the course. The exact sequence depends on what we’re treating and how the skin responds, but the principle is to prepare, stimulate, then support.

Are there extra costs for combination protocols?

Combination protocols involve more sessions than a single treatment course, so the total investment is higher. The reason clients choose them is that the results are typically meaningfully better than either treatment delivered alone. We’ll always lay out the full picture clearly at consultation so you can make an informed choice.
