Why does this Pigmentation Treatment Work so Well?

The Cosmelan peel targets the Pigmentation and Melasma and causes the skin cells to reduce and lighten any melanin showing on the skin’s surface. The overall process helps to even out the facial and body skin tones and even out the appearance of discolouration, creating a clearer, smoother and healthier looking skin in the months and years ahead.

The peel’s azelaic acid eliminates microorganisms and encourages the growth of new skin cells, while kojic acid prevents the skin from producing melanin in the future.

Pigmentation Treatment for the Face and Intimate Areas

It is not just the face that is treated for Pigmentation and the lightening of the skin. Intimate areas such as the groin, inner thighs, and exterior intimate areas can also be successfully treated using our medical Dermamelan Intimate® . The Dermamelan enhances the quality and lightness of the intimate area while significantly reducing the Melasma and Pigmentation.

Preparation and Therapy

Following your consultation, you will be advised what to do at home in preparation for your treatment. In-clinic, your skin is given the peel (which has no discomfort). You then keep the peel on the treated area for up to 12 hours until it dries entirely. Because the active chemicals have infiltrated your skin during this period, you may anticipate that your skin will be slightly irritated and red when the peel is removed with water.

The Process of Healing

Your skin will be red and swollen a day following the procedure. This indicates that the Cosmelan Peel has accelerated the healing of wounds and the shedding of skin. The body floods the area with collagen and red and white blood cells, which help lighten Pigmentation and even out skin tone. Results can be visible seven days after the treatment, with complete healing. Your skin’s general texture will have noticeably improved as a result of enhanced collagen formation and skin hydration, and pigmentation will have diminished.

Aftercare following Treatment

You can anticipate continual changes in the colour, texture, tone, and brightness of your skin two months following the procedure. To get the best effects, it’s crucial to stick to the advised skincare regimen by using the products supplied. A maintenance regimen of six-monthly treatments can be necessary in extreme circumstances. Your paramedical skin specialist will be available to you in the months following your treatment to address any concerns and to enquire about your progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Comelan - Mesoestetic at Skin Peel?

The Cosmelan® treatment is more than just a peel, despite the fact that it is frequently called that. Cosmolan® addresses the underlying cause of the issue, in contrast to peels, which only addresses the surface. It involves a procedure that, like a peel, completely eliminates and lessens pigmentation spots while also correcting the overproduction of pigmentation and preventing the spots, melasma and pigmentation from returning.

Does Cosmelan work for Acne or Spots?

Cosmolan® is a depigmentation treatment, and therefore active acne cannot be treated with it.
At Skin Revision, we would advise an initial skin consultation for acne. During this consultation, a treatment plan can be discussed. There are successful options to treat active acne in teenagers and adults such as DMK enzyme therapy, SQT and LED light therapy.
However, Cosmelan does work well on acne blemishes and spots. A consultation with the paramedical skin therapist is necessary and they can advise on the best treatment plan for post-acne blemishes and spots.

When can we expect to receive the results? If the effects of the treatment are already apparent before I finish it, why should I continue?

A few weeks after your in-clinic treatment you will see the biggest results. The skin texture improves and the number of spots, blemishes and melasma significantly decreases. This may create a false sense of accomplishment. Although melanin has been eliminated from the outermost layers of the skin during this time, the area has significantly faded and the skin has become softer and smoother. However, the cause of the issue has not yet been addressed. The cell that produces melanin, the melanocyte, is still unchecked and keeps producing too much pigment, or melanin. It is crucial to continue a home treatment with regulating activity in order to re-educate the melanocyte and control this overproduction. This will return the cell to a normal active state over the course of the months ahead and stop pigmentation and spots from reoccurring.

Is there a good time of year to have a Cosmelan treatment?

Cosmolan® can be used at any time of year, however it is best to be treated in-clinic, and use your homecare products around the Autumn and Winter when exposure to the sun is less intense and lasts longer. However, facial covering, staying out of direct sunlight / sun exposure and applying daily SPF 30, allows Cosmelan to be an all-year round treatment for Pigmentation, Melasma, Freckles and Spots.

What does skin issues does Cosmelan treat?

Cosmelan® is effective in treating spots such as: Melasma, post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentations (PIH), Senile Lentigo, spots, age spots and freckles, skin lightening.

What happens if I stop my Cosmelan skincare routine at home?

You are disrupting the treatment and won’t get the desired benefits if you don’t adhere to the at-home routine. A chronic, uncontrolled, excessive synthesis of melanin results from not using Cosmolan 2 depigmenting cream with regulating activity. The melanocyte will also fail to regulate. As melanin moves to the surface and the skin layers are regenerated, the spot will resurface and become more noticeable.
Because skin is more sensitive and susceptible to outside aggressions during therapy, there is a very high chance that the spot will reappear if photoprotection, or melan 130 pigment management, is not used.

Can the spots reappear once the course of treatment is over?

With proper expert care, extra pigmentation can be clearly eliminated. It is a dynamic process, though, and the imbalance that creates the pigmentation may lead to their recurrence. In order to prevent repigmentation, it is crucial to perform your daily home care as prescibed.

Are there any side effects following a Cosmelan treatment for Pigmentation, Freckles or Melasma?

Being a topical treatment, Cosmolan® is less intrusive and doesn’t interfere with your ability to go about your everyday life as usual. The skin may feel red or itchy during the first phase after the peel has been washed off. This sensation should will go away after a day or so. Slight peeling and sensitivity are typical during the home phase; these side effects go away when using our skin specialist’s advised homecare products.

Does the treatment make me unable to fulfil my daily life activities?

You are able to carry out your everyday activities as usual because it is not an invasive procedure. During the first several days following the treatment (as your skin adapts and peels) care must be taken when performing any kind of activity. For example, swimming pool bathing, any sun exposure, and activities that may lead to sweat or perspiration on the treated areas.

What are the homecare products to be used pre-treatment and post-treatment?

The Cosmolan® method’s home pack includes the necessary materials to complete the depigmenting process and remove/reduce spots of melanic origin (pigmentation/freckles). Prescribed homecare protocol of the Cosmolan® must be used.
Long-term recurrence of the spots is avoided by controlling the excess melanin production and regularly treating them at home.

Cosmolan 2, a face lotion for eliminating and/or lessening the pigmentation / melasma, is included in the package.
Melan recovery: a soothing and restorative balm.
Melan 130 pigment control: excellent colour and helps give protection from the sun.
