Can children have treatment for their Warts?

Providing there is a parent or guardian present, then we treat children from ages 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 years – 18 years of age.

The CryoPen or Plasma procedures are very successful, safe and has minimal discomfort during or after treatment.  It is important to add, that all warts are different and may require 1 -3 treatments to remove. However, you will be given realistic expectations and costs during your free wart assessment over the phone and in-person. You can then decide if you would like to proceed or not.

Does the Wart treatment hurt?

It is often advisable to soak, ideally with Salicylic acid solution first, before coming to see us.
There is minimal discomfort on the wart or the surrounding areas but it may a little sore for about 1 -2 minutes.

What happens during the treatment?

How long is the treatment for Warts?

The treatment itself can be around 2 minutes. However, 30 minutes would be needed for your initial appointment and 15 minutes for any further treatment of the same warts.

How long before the Wart disappears?

A significant difference may be seen after the first treatment. However, it is more likely that a second or third treatment maybe necessary. Some warts can be particular stubborn to remove, especially on younger children and those on adults where the warts are very well established. We would normally notice a difference in the first 2 to 3 weeks. Follow up treatments over the coming weeks would cost significantly less than the orginal treatment.

How do Warts spread?

Warts can be very contagious, althought harmless, and usually spread from direct skin contact or in damp places. Prime examples are swimming pools and communal showers. If you scratch your wart, the viral particles may spread to other areas of your skin. They can develop individually or in clusters.

When will the Wart stop being visible?

It may take multiple treatments for the wart to fall off and disappear eventually. On average it is usually between 1 – 2 months

Does the treatment for Warts hurt?

There is minimal discomfort but there will be extreme cold for a few seconds in the treated area when using CryoPen cryotherapy. The Plasma treatment causes no discomfort on the wart or surrounding area.

What are the most successful Wart treatments?

CryoPen is a medical-grade Cryotherapy and used in hospitals. This particular Cryotherapy treatment is reknowned to be the most successful. It is often advisable to soak, ideally with Salicylic acid solution first, before coming to a Wart specialist or dermatologist.
CryoPen will freeze the affected area of the Wart at -89 degrees C. The feeling is of intense cold but only in the treated area.
The Wart will feel sore for about 5 minutes before the minimal pain wears off.
It may need two treatments or even three, if the Wart is old with longer roots. It is a skin virus and so an old Wart can take these further treatments.
Providing the necessary after-care has been adhered to, the Wart will gradually fall off and the skin will be left blemish-free.
Plasma Spray is also a very viable option which ruptures the celll membrane and cuts off the blood supply.

Do Warts get bigger or worse if left untreated?

It is unknown if the Wart will get bigger or worse if left untreated.
You may try over the counter treatments first to see if that is a remedy.
If that does not work, or the Warts do not diminish on their own accord, then it would be advisable to get the Wart treated asap. If left untreated, the Warts may become sore or painful and may spread to other parts of the body or to other people.

Can children be treated for Warts?

What is the difference between a Common Wart and a Plantar Wart?

The Common wart will be seen in the areas mentioned, however, the Plantar wart can actually grow inwards on the feet’s soles and be very painful and difficult to treat with over the counter products.

Can Warts return after CryoPen or Plasma Pen treatment?

While CryoPen and Plasma Pen treatments are effective, there’s a slight possibility of warts recurring, especially if the virus persists in the skin. However, following the after-care advice can minimize the risk of recurrence. Advice such as keeping the wart dry and covered. Also it would be advised not to touch the wart at any stage with your hands, unless you are wearing gloves.

Are there any side effects after CryoPen or Plasma Pen treatment for Warts?

Mild redness, swelling, or blistering may occur post-treatment but typically resolve within a few days.
