Xanthelasma under eyes

Xanthelasma Beaconsfield

Xanthelasma is the appearance of yellowish, fatty deposits of cholesterol under the skin which show themselves as small, raised bumps or patches around the eyes, particularly on the eyelids.

How are they treated and removed?

The advanced skin treatment solution reduces and removes Xanthelasma using medical-grade CryoPen. This non-invasive procedure involves the precise application of extreme cold (at -89 degrees celsius) to the affected area using nitrous oxide.

The CryoPen targets and freezes the fatty deposits, causing them to successfully break down. This process is safe and minimally discomforting, ensuring precise treatment without harming the surrounding healthy skin.

After-effects following treatment

Following the CryoPen treatment, some redness, mild swelling, or a slight stinging sensation may occur temporarily. However, these effects typically subside within a few days as the skin heals.

Results and complete disappearance

During the treatment, a mild white frost should form evenly over the lesion followed by a white raised blister.

Immediately after the treatment, the tissue turns red-ish coloured due to interstitial bleeding.

The time taken for the Xanthelasma to disappear entirely varies. In most cases, noticeable improvements can be seen within just a few weeks after the CryoPen treatment. However, it may be necessary for at least one additional treatment, in order to see a complete disappearance.

Who is likely to get Xanthelasma?

Xanthelasma can occur in anyone, but certain factors can increase the likelihood of its development. Individuals with higher levels of cholesterol, particularly LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, are more prone to Xanthelasma. Additionally, those with conditions like familial hypercholesterolemia or genetic predispositions to high cholesterol levels might be at an increased risk.

Xanthelasma may indicate underlying health issues, especially related to cholesterol levels and we would advise consulting a doctor before treatment with us for several reasons:

  1. Cholesterol Assessment: Checking cholesterol levels is essential, especially if Xanthelasma appears, as it might be an indicator of high cholesterol.
  2. Identifying Underlying Conditions: Sometimes, Xanthelasma can be a symptom of underlying conditions, such as familial hypercholesterolemia, which require medical attention and management.
  3. Health Risk Assessment: High cholesterol levels can pose significant health risks, including cardiovascular problems. Identifying and managing these risks early is crucial for long-term health.
