Frequently Asked Questions
How is the Acne treated and removed?
It is likely that DMK Skin Revision will be used. Jacqui Bannister has been working with DMK for years in both Hertfordshire and Beaconsfield. She and DMK would work together to get to the root of the acne and eradicate the bacteria that is continuously pushing itself to the surface. It is the bacteria that creates the spots, pimples, spots, and acne.
SQT is also now used to treat Acne and Acne Scars.
What will be skin look like after the acne treatments?
Your skin will be red immediately after your skin treatment for acne and spots. You will be advised of the quickest way to reduce the redness. In just an hour your skin will have settled down again. It may be a little sore for that first hour and you will be advised accordingly during and after the treatment on how to reduce that soreness.
Can I wear makeup before the treatment?
No. We advise removing all makeup and cosmetics before you arrive for your acne treatment at the skin clinic in Beaconsfield.
How long will it take for the spots and acne to go?
This is not a quick and immediate fix. So you are on a journey of possibly a few months of treatments and homecare products. The products are applied by ourselves and you will be working underneath the dermis layers of the skin during and after your first treatment. They will continue to work and bring out the bad bacteria to the surface. Once that is done, the skin revises and treatments and products change. This is to help rebuild the skin, strengthen it, and make it glow again.
Can you treat acne scars on the face, chest and back?
We can treat acne scars on the common areas of the back, chest, and, most commonly, the face. The end results are the same.
How are ice pick scarring and box scarring treated?
Ice Pick and Box scarring are caused by more aggressive and severe acne. Micro-needling would be recommended for both ice pick and box scarring. This method of treatment produces more Collagen and produces is quicker. In doing this the skin becomes plumper and fuller and flattens out the scars. We would then recommend LED light therapy. LED will help heal, strengthen, and hydrate the skin.
What are the side effects of acne scaring treatment?
Immediately after the treatment, some redness may be visible for up to 48 hours. This is perfectly normal and nothing to be worried about. We advise you to stay out of direct sunlight for the first 48 hours and wear SPF 50 sun cream as advised by a senior skin therapist at the clinic.
Will all the acne scars be removed or reduced?
It very much depends on the age of the acne scars, your skin type, your skin tone, the severity of the acne scars, the type of acne scars. It also depends on the ability of your skin to regenerate collagen and elastin to produce new skin cells. It is possible that some or all of the scars can be removed, but one is always realistic of the time frames that may be required to achieve this.
Can acne scars heal on their own?
Acne scars do not go away on their own, they need help to disappear. Those older more sunken or depressed acne scars actually become more noticeable with age. Once the collagen and elastin levels get lower, it is that much harder for the skin to be strong and plump. Thankfully the Skin clinic has treatments that are able to reduce and even remove acne scars over the months of treatment. It is really important to come to us as soon as you feel an acne scar is permanent. The younger your skin, the more likely you will get cell turnover and renewal. By having these positive factors, the treatments will work quicker and the end results better.
What is Pigmentation?
As a skin clinic, we look at Pigmentation as a changing of skin colour resulting from the presence of pigments. Pigmentation generally involves melanin, which is a pigment produced by melanocytes. These are cells within the epidermis (outermost layer of the skin). Melanin plays the most crucial role in determining the colour of our skin.
Who gets Pigmentation?
Due to genetic factors, individuals and ethnic groups will notice varying amounts and types of Pigmentation. Additionally, those open to external factors such as sun exposure are more suseptical. Also, hormonal changes, ageing of the skin, and certain medical conditions can influence pigmentation.
Can Pigmentation lead to other skin conditions?
Imbalances in melanin production can lead to a couple of similar skin conditions, including hyperpigmentation (excessive pigmentation) or hypopigmentation (insufficient pigmentation).
Why do dark patches develop during pregnancy?
The dark patches on the skin of ladies during their time of being pregnant (pregnancy) is Melasma. It common in women and sometimes known as the “mask of pregnancy”. Is Pigmentation dangerous or cancerous?
Generally pigmentation is not cancerous or indeed dangerous. However, it is important to be aware of any new darkening patches on the skin and if you are at all concerned, to get them checked by a skin specialist such as ourselves at Skin Revision. What causes Indian skin to be more prone to Hyperpigmentation?
Indian skin is more susceptible to pigmentation disorders than other skin tones and skin colours. human groups.
Melanin is in our skin and occasionally the small cell packets called melanosomes, can leak with inflammation and trauma, causing dark skin patches or Pigmentation. Individuals with deeper skin tones have more melanosomes and so they are more prone to Hyperpigmentation.
The main causes for Pigmentation on Indian skin are: genetics, inflammatory skin conditions such as acne or eczema, cuts and bruises, blue light from mobile phones and PC monitors, UVA rays from direct sunlight.
What is the best treatment for Pigmentation?
Whiter skin tones can be treated following a skin consultation, with a skin specialist such as ourselves at Skin Revision. It maybe that a Chemical skin peel is favoured or CryoPen cryotherapy.
Also another successful treatment programme for Pigmentation would be with DMK skincare. The products used during a treatment for Pigmentation would utilise a delivery system containing anti-inflammatory ingredients, antioxidants, amino acids, proteins, Vitamin C, Vitamin A and retinoids. The DMK Melanotech formulation utilises several natural, yet potent inhibitors that prohibit melanin production, while removing dark spots, pigmentation, freckles and sun damage.
How to prevent Pigmentation / Hyperpigmentation?
Look for skincare products with antioxidant ingredients like Vitamin C, Retinol and Ferulic Acid.
These serums help prevent the production of melanin whilst increasing cell turnover by exfoliating the top layer of dead skin so that the existing pigmentation disappears.
Chemical peels – the high concentration of exfoliating ingredients in the peels works by breaking down the top layer of dead skin cells, allowing promotion of the clearer skin underneath.
A diet that includes anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric, green, leafy vegetables, berries, tomatoes, and pomegranate. They help prevent oxidative stress which is the result of free radicals and antioxidant imbalance in your body. Free radicals damage healthy skin cells and induce more pigmentation.
Check your hormones and make sure you’re eating enough protein. Protein is important for the repair of our cells. Also, make sure you’re sleeping enough – 7-8 hours each night or day, ideally. Try and drink 2-3 litres of water every day!
What treatments do Skin Revision use to treat Pigmentation?
At Skin Revision, and following a full consultation, we would consider Chemical skin peels, Microneedling or DMK Skin Revision.
How do I know if I have a Mole and that it is not Melenoma?
The first port of call would be to speak to your GP. They will determine the type of skin lesion you have. They will also be able to supply a letter to advise both what it is and that is ok to treat by a recognised skin specialist such as Skin Revision.

Should the assessment be all fine, then Skin Revision will treat. If the mole or other lesion is of a concern to the dermatologist, then they will recommend you book an appointment to get a biopsy for further investigation.
Do Moles get bigger and change colour as I get older?
The number of moles on your body and face can increase over time. It is also possible that moles can increase in size as you age. They may begin to grow little strands of hair and it is not uncommon for moles to change shape, become darker or lighter in colour and become more raised.
Should I regularly check my Moles?
It is very important for you or someone you know well to check for new moles and see any changes in the appearance of existing moles. If you are at all unsure or have any questions, you must speak to your GP, dermatologist or ourselves at Skin Revision, as soon as possible.
Can children have treatment to remove Moles?
Unfortunately, for insurance purposes, it is not possible to treat anyone to have their moles removed if they are under the age of 6. Those who are 6 – 18 years of age will need to be with their parent or guardian. This should help your question “how old do you have to be to have a mole removed?”
Are my Moles safe to treat?

Are there certain areas of the body where Skin tags commonly occur?
Yes, skin tags are common in areas with friction, such as the neck, underarms, and groin. However, they can appear on various body parts. These areas where skin tags occur and can be removed are on the eyelids, on the sides and corners of the eyes, the scalp, the torso, the back and the thighs.
How does CryoPen differ from VeinAway thermocoagulation in Skin tag removal?
CryoPen uses freezing technology at minus 89 degrees celcius. The intense coldness freezes the supply of the blood to the tag, causing the cells to die off and the skin tags to eventually fall-off.
VeinAway thermocoagulation employs intense directed heat. The heat causes thermocoagulation and the vessels supplying the tag is restricted in blood supply and therefore dies-off.
Both methods are very effective. However, which method used will depend on factor such as a) the closeness to a sensitive area such as the eye (VeinAway will be used) b) the size of the tag c) the age of the tag.
If the tag is loose and small, then CryoPen would be used. If the skin tag is older with a wide base and deeper roots, then CryoPen cryotherapy would again be used.
Is there an age limit to have Skin tags removed at the clinic in Beaconsfield?
Skin tag removal is suitable for all those from age 6 upwards. From the ages of 6 years old to 18 years old, the patient should be accompanied by their parent or guardian.
Can you remove multiple Skin tags during one session?
Yes, we can address multiple skin tags in a single session / appointment. However, we would not treat for more than 15 minutes. This is because after a period of time during treatment, the body actually rejects the trauma that is being caused to the body. This will mean that the skin tags do not die off as effeciently as required. The results will therefore not be as desired.
Further treatments will then be needed on the remaining skin tags.
Do I need a consultation before scheduling an appointment?
Prior to your appointment to have your skin tag removed, we would carry our a short free consultation, via email, whats app or phone call. This may involve sending us photographs or the skin tag or skin tags.
Once we have seen the tag, we will inform you of the treatment process and any aftercare following the treatment for skin tags.
There is no charge to receive any of this information from the clinic.
Are there any lifestyle changes recommended to prevent new Skin tags from forming?
While some factors are beyond control, maintaining good hygiene and avoiding excessive friction can help prevent new skin tags from forming.
Can pregnant women undergo Skin tag removal procedures?
No. Pregnancy-related skin tags may fade post-pregnancy, but for those seeking removal during pregnancy, removal of skin tags cannot take place due to the contra-indications.
How long does it take to see results after a Skin tag removal procedure?
Results vary, but many patients notice an immediate improvement. In the days ahead, the tags will gradually start to die and may well become loose and floppy. Providing the correct homecare is adhered to then the tags should fall off within a matter of one to two weeks. It should be remembered however, that the larger skin tags with thicker bases, may need a further treatment at the clinic.

It is often asked “how old do you have to be to have a verruca treated?” At Skin Revision, we can treat from the age of 6 upwards. If the individual is under 18, then a parent or guardian needs to be present.
Can CryoPen Cryotherapy effectively treat Verrucas?
CryoPen Cryotherapy is a highly effective method for treating verrucas by freezing and destroying the affected tissue. CryoPen freezes the verruca at minus 89 degrees celcius. This kills off the blood supply to the cells and vessels of the verruca. Over time, the verruca will shrink and fall off. Much of the internal parts of the verruca are taken out via the body’s own lymphatic system.
How many CryoPen sessions are typically required to treat a Verruca?
The number of sessions varies, with many patients experiencing successful results after just one CryoPen treatment. Multiple sessions may be recommended and needed for stubborn verrucas.
Younger children and younger adults tend to need less treatments. The immune system of those aged 6 – 30 years of age, tends to be greater and this allows the disappearance of the verruca to be quicker and any marks on the skin to vanish quicker.
Can Verrucas spread to other parts of the body or to other people?
Verrucas can spread, especially in damp environments. A timely treatment with CryoPen Cryotherapy can help prevent their spread.
Once it is known that a verruca is present, it is advisable to take precautions as much as possible. Example – wear sandals or flip flops around the house, showers or swimming baths. Wear socks around the house or your own footwear such as slippers.
Are there specific aftercare steps for CryoPen-treated Verrucas?
Yes. For the most part, they are common sense. Examples would be to keep the area as dry as possible, to avoid swimming for a couple of weeks and to avoid scratching or picking the verruca after treatment. Full aftercare instructions are given for you to read and take away, following your treatment.
Can Verrucas reoccur after CryoPen?
Does CryoPen have any side effects in treating Verrucas?
Side effects are typically mild, including redness and swelling. These usually resolve within a short period after treatment.

At Skin Revision, we use proven, safe and highly effective treatments, such as CryoPen, to treat verrucas.
What causes small red veins, called Thread veins, on the face?
The small red veins, or thread veins (broken capillaries) are often caused by factors such as:
-
Sun Exposure: Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can weaken the walls of blood vessels. This make them more prone to dilation and the thread veins will form.
-
Genetics: A family history of thread veins can increase the likelihood of developing them.
-
Ageing: As the skin ages, collagen and elastin, essential components that provide structural support to blood vessels, may break down. This can lead to the appearance of thread veins.
-
Hormonal Changes: Hormonal fluctuations, such as those that occur during pregnancy, menopause, or while using hormonal contraceptives, can contribute to the development of thread veins.
- Alcohol: Drinking alcohol over an extended period of time. Alcohol stimulates blood flow and causes blood vessels to enlarge. This is because venous valves do not work at the same pace and normal valves, which means a backflow of blood can occur. The backflow of blood causes the blood vessels to rise towards the surface, which leaves the noticeable thread veins or small lred dilated veins on the nose and cheeks in particular.
What are the other names for Thread veins?
- Spider Veins: Due to their web-like appearance.
- Broken Capillaries: Referring to the small blood vessels that have broken and become visible.
- Telangiectasia: A medical term describing small, dilated blood vessels near the surface of the skin.
Why does Rosacea have Thread veins?
Rosacea, in particular, is often associated with the presence of broken capillaries and thread veins. The chronic inflammation in rosacea can weaken blood vessel walls, leading to their visibility on the skin’s surface.
Are there specific areas on the face where Thread veins are most common?
Thread veins can appear on various facial areas, including the nose, ears, cheeks, chin, and eyelids. The most common areas for thread veins / small red veins to appear on the face, are on the nose, around the nostrils and on the cheeks.
How are these small red veins / Thread veins / Spider veins, treated?
For the best results, VeinAway should be used. Thermavein used to be used widely but it is not recommended to find a clinic, such as Skin Revision, in Beaconsfield, Bucks, that uses VeinAway.
Using intense pin pointed heath cauterisation techniques from a fine needle, VeinAway is able to thermocoagulate the small red veins, thread veins or broken capillaries, causing them to dilate and die immediately.
The VeinAway heat cauterisation thermocoagulation stops the blood supply within the small vein vessels. Sometimes immediately, but more commonly over a period of days, the red veins will disappear from view.
How long is the procedure for Thread vein removal with VeinAway?
Appointment times are generally 30 – 45 minutes, depending on the amount of veins to be treated. The actual treatment itself, is never more than 15 minutes.
Does the Thread vein treatment hurt?
There is an element of discomfort, especially when treating a large amount of thread veins / small veins on the face. Any discomfort goes away after a few seconds.
The most sensitive area to treat is the nose and eyelids.
Will there be any side effects following Thread vein treatment?
Some minimal soreness, some redness and some dryness may occur in a few days following the treatment. It is advisable to follow all the aftercare advice give following the treatment at Skin Revision, to minimise any discomfort and to speed up the healing process.
How long do the results last following the treatment to remove the Spider veins / Thread Veins?
For small individual red veins, the results can be immediate. However, for the larger veins and for individuals that have small clusters of broken capillaries / red veins, the results can take longer. Once all the veins have been treated and removed (even after a second treatment where necessary) the results can last many many years. However, it will depend on your lifestyle, drinking habits, sun exposure and hormonal fluctuations.
Can I use makeup following the treatment for Thread veins?
You can use makeup on the face following treatment. However, it is advised to not wear make-up whilst the treated areas are still red or flaky. Any makeup worn should not have irritants and ideally free from perfume.
Do not exfoliate the areas treated.
Do not leave the areas treated exposed to the sun in the first week or so.
Do wear a sunscreen on the treated area, that is recommended by Skin Revision

The CryoPen targets and freezes the fatty deposits and their blood supply, causing them to successfully break down and disperse through the body’s lymphatic system. This process ensures a precise treatment without harming the surrounding healthy skin.
How long does it take to recover after the treatment for Xanthelasma?
Recovery time is minimal. There is a potential for a little redness, micro crusts on the surface or a very small amount of swelling. Most clients can resume normal activities shortly after CryoPen treatment.

What are Blackheads?
Blackheads, also known as Open Comedones, are a type of acne lesion that occur when hair follicles become clogged with a combination of dead skin cells, oil (sebum), and bacteria. The blackheads have not developed into cystic acne as they have a more open appearance and a lack white pustule and pus.
Why do Blackheads form?
Blackheads form when excess oil (sebum) and dead skin cells clog hair follicles. Factors like hormonal changes, genetics, and certain skincare practices can contribute to their development.
Why might Blackheads turn into acne, and how can this be prevented?
Blackheads can progress into acne when bacteria, typically Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes),arrive in the clogged pores. This invasion triggers an inflammatory response, leading to the development of inflammatory acne lesions. Several factors may cause this:
1. Bacterial Invasion: As blackheads form, the accumulated sebum and dead skin cells create an environment conducive to bacterial growth. When harmful bacteria penetrate the clogged pores, it initiates an inflammatory response.
2. Inflammation: The presence of bacteria triggers the body’s immune response, leading to inflammation. This inflammation can turn a simple blackhead into more severe forms of acne, such as papules, pustules, nodules, or cysts.
3. Increased Sebum Production: Excessive sebum production, often influenced by hormonal changes, can make the situation worse. Higher sebum levels provide more fuel for the growth of acne-causing bacteria.
4. Genetic Predisposition: Individuals with a genetic predisposition to acne may be more prone to this progression. Genetic factors can influence sebum production, skin cell turnover, and the body’s inflammatory response.
How is it best to prevent Blackheads from forming?
1. Effective Cleansing: A crucial step in preventing blackheads from turning into acne is maintaining effective cleansing practices. Regular cleansing helps remove excess oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells, reducing the risk of inflammation.
2. Topical Treatments at Home: Incorporating homecare products into your skincare regime that contain ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can help control bacterial growth and reduce inflammation. These products target the factors that contribute to the progression of blackheads into acne.
3. Non-Comedogenic Products: Using non-comedogenic skincare products ensures that the ingredients won’t clog pores or make existing blackheads worse.
4. Professional Interventions: Seeking professional skincare treatments, such as a Hydra Facial or Sebum Soak through DMK skincare, can provide deep cleansing and extraction of blackheads. These treatments are effective in preventing the progression into inflammatory acne by keeping pores clear.
5. Balanced Skincare Routine: Establishing a healthy lifestyle routine that addresses individual skin needs is essential. This includes proper hydration, sun protection, and the use of products that promote skin health and barrier function.
6. Regular Professional Assessment: Periodic assessments by a skincare professional such as Skin Revision in Buckinghamshire near Berkshire, can monitor you skin health, identify potential issues, and tailor treatment plans based on your individual skin.
Early intervention and consistent skincare at home, play key roles in halting the progression of Blackheads whilst promoting the best skin wellness.
